our mission
The San Francisco Nighthawks was founded in 1995 to elevate and promote the Women’s Soccer game and to provide the highest opportunity to Bay Area players. In this quest we chose to provide inclusive equal representation and opportunities for all. Our belief is that every female player, who is qualified to play at this high level, should be afforded the opportunity to play with us regardless of age, physical size, race, preferences, identities, socio-economic background, education, or previous club.
To that means we take responsibility for the financial side of the organization, identifying sponsors to offset the costs so that anyone could play with us for free. This ensures that we can provide a safe platform for a variety of skilled players to advance to college and on to Professional Soccer Careers, or continue to play with us after they graduate.
Our motto is, “We are more than just the 90 minutes we play on the field”. As our Nighthawks’ network of social justice advocates enter the mainstream workforce it is our desire to elevate women’s voices, amplify social causes such as Racial Justice, Women’s Rights, LGBTQ+ Rights, Children’s Rights, and speak for those that might not have a seat at the table. We have partnered in the past with many local Youth Clubs and will continue to do so.
The Nighthawks actively seek out organizations to partner with and help with community outreach, using soccer as the canvas and social activism as the multicolored brushstrokes. We are and forever want to be an active member of our local and extended Communities. All help is good help. We are stronger together.
